Parsippany Presbyterian ChurchSummer Happenings:
Our Morris
County Historic Preservation Trust Fund Gant contracts were officially
signed, sealed and delivered. We anticipate
that in the next month our historic preservation architect and crew will begin
the work that will lay the foundation for the Preservation Plan that is to be
created for our buildings and grounds.
The
Senior High Youth Group enjoyed a
week of faith and fellowship in a house on the beach in the Outer Banks of
North Carolina in July. There was a heavy emphasis on music (we
brought a drum set,
bass,
5 guitars, amps, PA system and computers), and the kids had a blast
experimenting with the instruments and
recording
their own music videos. Each day was started with a morning service
and Bible study with small group and large group
discussions. Our youth group (and advisors!) all grew from
this enriching experience.

This fall:
We
are back in full swing with our fall schedule. The early service has resumed at 8:30 and Sunday school is once again meeting for
Pre-K – 8th grade during the 10:00 service.
During
the 10:00 service we are excited to be able to now occasionally use the new hymnals that the early service has
been enjoying for the past two years.
The funds to purchase the additional copies were generously donated by a
church member so that our late service attendees would be able to enjoy some of
the beautiful, more contemporary hymns in the new hymnal. We would still like to purchase a few
additional copies, so if you would like to donate funds for this purpose,
please make your checks payable to
If
you have been to church this month you have undoubtedly taken note of our new
bulletin format. As Presbyterians we
often dislike change, but as Presbyterians we do love using our resources
wisely. We estimate that by making these
simple changes to our bulletin format (thereby eliminating the need for inserts
on a regular basis) we can save nearly 25,000 copies a year. This is not only a savings in paper cost and
in wear-and-tear on our copy machine, but also a help to our environment as we
save trees!

Our goal is to raise at least $5,000 to send our team
and have a sizeable donation to make when we get there. Make your checks out to
Parsippany Presbyterian Church and mark them “Mission Trip.” Check out the
Presbyterian Disaster Relief web site to get a sense of the scope of what we
are involved in.

Get ready for our for
our big, big annual fall church picnic.
Plan now to spend the day with your church friends on September 30th
in the meadow across the street from the sanctuary. It will start around noon
and last on into the evening. Bring a covered dish, salad or dessert to share.
We will supply the hamburgers and hot dogs, drinks, and one or two surprises to
make it a delightful afternoon.
World Communion Sunday
will be October 7.
This is a special celebration when Christians around the world observe
Holy Communion on the same day.
A
new members
class is now forming. If you have been visiting with us for some time and
would like to be an active member of our church, fill out one of our visitor
cards and indicate that you would like to join others who have committed their
time, talents and finances to Christ’s ministry here in Parsippany. Group
meetings will begin in October.
Bring
it on! We are now officially collecting rummage for the sale on October 6th . Please do not bring any large items
like over-stuffed chairs or couches. All
the proceeds will go to support our mission team to
Pasta Supper! October 6th later in the day,
after the rummage sale, we are hosting a pasta supper. Are we crazy? No, it is simply part two of
our fundraising to support the mission team that will be representing us to those
who are still recovering from devastating hurricanes over the last two years

Property:
On
Monday, September 10, members of our staff and a number of church members
volunteered their time (and plenty of sweat!) to continue working in the meadow
across from the church. They rented some
heavy machinery to clear the underbrush and remove logs and piles of old
cement. They mowed the grass and
finished the day by picking up trash from the highway. Thanks to:
Randy Glowacki and his crew, Don Bragg, Rich Tuers,
Harlan Schlicher, Bob Eckert, and Bob Campbell.
Their
work is in preparation for the big church picnic on September 30 and to help
keep the area useable year-round. Keep
your eyes open for news of a possible family overnight camp-out to be held in
our newly reclaimed meadow later this fall!
Our Hearts and Hands Preschool Program is
off to another fantastic start! Classes
began on September 4, and the school is once again filled with the sounds of
children learning, laughing, singing and playing. The new Extended Day Pre-K Kindergarten
readiness class is already proving to be a great asset to the program, pleasing
both parents and children. There are
still a few openings in certain classes, so if you know of anyone who may be
looking for a school, please call our director, Michele, during the day at
973-257-5550.
Sing
Your Praises to God.
One of the most distinctive aspects of the Christian faith is our emphasis on
music, particularly singing. It is an old Christian belief that singing is like
praying twice. Our music program is a great way to either share your talents or
learn to be a better singer. We hope that everyone will take part in some way
by participating in the various opportunities for men, women and children. Choir
rehearsals began Thursday, September 13, at 7:00PM. It is never too late to
join! The Sunday school music program resumed on the 9th.
Be watching for men’s chorus opportunities in the near future.
